Continuous Cites 2

Trude is a city which is very typical. You dont actually have to visit it to know how it looks like, or what new experience you will have there because there would not be any. Many places nowadays are having the same things, just like Orchard Road. Even though there are alot of new shopping centres that have been built or renovated, but it doesnt matter which one you go to, beacause they are all selling the same kind of things and the service provided is also the same throughout everywhere.

Cities & Eyes 2

You do not actually have to see things to know what they are. Zemrude is a place where there is nothing really special to it, which is why people walk through it looking downwards on the floor, instead of looking up and around the place. This shows that majority of the people there are either not observant or they are just too ignorant about everything.

In Sophronia, there are 2 parts of it. One is the theme park liked place, where people enjoy and have fun. The other part would be a more serious and stern place, where people work. It is like having a holiday period during the school holidays, just that it is totally reversed in a way where by the school holidays are much longer than the school day.

Cities & Signs 3

Zoe is a prety crowded city. there are many things going on at the same time and each of the buildings are very different, which makes it difficult to focus and distinguish the features of this city. It is like a festival going on throughout the whole city. This city does not actually have signs or words to differentiate the buildings. However, with our senses and basic knowledge of things, people are able to distinguish the things just by looking at them.

Thin Cities 1

Isura is like a high technology kampung. Kampong houses are like on stilts above the sea." Rise over a deep, subterramean lake" And according to the people there, they said that their gods "Live in the buckets that rise suspended from a cable, as they appear... a city that moves entirely upwarads". I imagine the city to have lifts, which is why they are able to move upwards.

Cities & Desire 2

Anastasia is a city or a place whereby you actually will enjoy working there as it is like you are working towards something you wish to long for or which you are craving for. But it only reveals your desire slowly, so it seems like a kind of drive to keep you working. It is comparable to a scenario where there was once a hello kitty soft toy given out to customers who purchases a meal from Macdonalds, and everyone would be queing up outside way before dawn, just to be able to grab one of it .

Cities and Eyes 5

There is always contrast existing in all cities, one side with a face of the luxurious lifestyle that many dreamt of, the other is left to age, to rust. Despite living in the same city, the situations between the people are poles apart. It is a city that separates light and darkness. Ironically the luxurious people are living on the darkness side, as what the author has described the images of this side with sinuous symbolisms. Whereas on the other side, there is a sense of negligence as the environment is underdeveloped. These two situations can never be identified differently as they coexist with one another.

Thin Cities 4

Every city needs a balance between things, in this case, are work and play. The irony in this city is that, people are counting the months, the days, waiting for their time to work and learn. No city is able to survive without government (power to control the society) and laws. Cities nowadays are in contrary with Sophronia, the society forces people to work all day, improving the economy. A growing city with lifeless citizens; the lives of people and the city are both incomplete.

Cities & Memory 2

Walking down this city, you may tend to get confusion state of mind. As you may start seeing double visions or seeing things that are not really there in reality. The reason this may happen as when you desire something that you are lacking so much, your mind will start to thing and soon you will get hallucination. Plus, you are in the wild regions where everything seems the same, from all directions and that you could not see whats beyond those big wild regions. This city can be labeled as the hallucination space. Desires has become the culprit that human being are acting this way when they reach to this city, making it also a memory that is going to stuck in their lives. Memory is the past of something.

Cities & Memory 1

In this city, the main material used is metal. Usually, metals are use to build statues to allow people who lives there to worship their Gods or idol. There are like many multi-coloured lamps around the city, where I can imagine the city looking like a funfair environment. It becomes a place like what Marco Polo had describe it, saying vistors who came actually beomes happy. This statement makes me think that funfair environment will be the closes environment that I can link to both the multi-coloured lights and the feeling they potrayed to visitors. As a fun fair is where the place we use to hang out during our childhood days, which also brings back happy and relax memories. The multi-coloured lights make me recall the days when I was at the rooftop of esplanade and I faced towards the city, the buildings are decorated with lights and its makes the city colourful even it’s in the night time.

Cities and the Dead 2

Our mind sometimes amplifies our memories and love subconsciously for people we loved that are dead. We start looking for similarities in strangers that resembles them, especially their actions and behaviors. Perhaps these faces are all illusions playing in one's mind, affecting the way one thinks and sees. A city that brings back sorrowful memories.

Cities and Eyes 3

Over the past decades, buildings are constructed upwards, one higher than the other, one closer to the clouds than others as human populations expand. People that dwell in hardly come in contact with the earth beneath them, such good examples are the HDBs and office buildings as seen today. If these buildings are being morphed together, where markets, food courts, shopping malls and bridges that connect between them, people might lose the definition of what ground is to them as it once were. They will soon be eyeing down to the ground during their free time and observe every thing that move on the earth, intersecting shadows of the massive giants.

Zirma

This city of Zirma is probably a city that is probably existing in only Khan's mind as it is said that "Memory is redundant: it repeats signs so that the city can begin to exist. " Things like having a puma on a leash are not really possible . I feel that he just saw one of each of the things that he saw in one city and repeated it in his mind so only he could see all that repetition of things going on in Zirma .

Octavia

In Octavia , it talks about the foundation and how the city is made. The whole city is built downwards as it is like as though it is suspended between two mountains. The foundation of it also serves as a passage and support for the passangers. I feel that to live there , you must be very cautious which every step you walk or you might just die. The foundation of every building is very important. It has to be stable and firm. This reminds me of the Gmax , the attraction at Clarke Quay, whereby the 'ball' in which u sit in is suspended by two tall structures .This The only difference is that the chances of coming out alive from the Gmax is much higher thn Octavia.

Thin Cities. 3

At first, Marco Polo described Armilla a city that had structures that are not well treated or unfinished had lead me to the thinking that Armilla was deserted place where no one was there to treat the city’s structure. Only water pipes were spotted there. It seems that water pipes in that city have become the main structure of homes rather than bricks wall or any other material. Armilla to me can be called as the “Water City” where people live closely with water and using water in more ways than any other city. After that, Marco Polo said that Armilla cannot be called deserted as at an hour, there will be woman spotting around the showers suspended at the end of the pipes around the cities. This made me wonder why will only after awhile he can spot people living around the city? Was it because there was a timing for people to come out or their house to use the water around the cities or was it because the city has a very small population?

Cities & Memory 4

A city that remains its culture and everything else, yes it definitely would be a unique and memorable place for one to remember, however as revolution never stops, time forgot this piece of land that tells its journey about the past. This forgotten city would still, be a desirable place to escape from the harsh world that is constantly changing for the sake of wealth and fame.

Cities and Memories 1

DIOMIRA

People see buildings that are identical and similar. It is almost like deja-vu because of the similarities. When they go to other cities, they thought they are happy at the moment to be able to witness such magnificence , only until they reach the city of Diomira will they then know what is magnificence and beauty.

GRACE

Cities & Desire . 5

In this chapter, Zobeide is a city where people had designed it to be a trap. As Marco polo said, cites are like dream that are made up of desires. The reason why the city has this “trapped” journey inside was because men of that time dream of an unknown woman who was running around the night and they desire to catch her and find her. However they will always lose her in the end, thus they arranged spaces and wall that will trap her eventually. This story of how Zobeide the city was made, tells me that people first visualise what they want to have in the city because arranging walls will affect the space quality and function. The method of arranging spaces and walls to come out with this “trapped” space, can be used in a gallery. As, if the artist who wants his audience to be wondering around or appreciating his work more can use this method as audience will not be able to leave the gallery so soon.

Cities & Signs 1

Everywhere one go, everything one see, all take meanings of something else or not, and a signal for something. In most cities, signs have become essential tools to indicate their functions from the way our eyes recognize them. In typical shopping malls in Singapore (a shopping paradise for most people), we identity each shops by their signs and brands. Without these "guides", it will be nearly impossible to tell the difference as one scans along the sides of the mall's interior. What has become of Singapore in the eyes of people blindfolded by signage?

Cities & Memory 2

The world is ever-changing as revolution adds up its pace. What one's desire for something cannot last long in this society, will only become memories before he or she knew. The memories of the people are often being left behind as time goes by. Sometimes we crave for things that are forgotten by time, used to see them everyday, the culture we once know, all no longer exist in our surroundings. It is usually hard to accept new things being introduced but we all are going to face it someday, might as well take it anyway.
